What are the differences between the various image generators?

Artificial intelligences for image generation, such as Stable Diffusion, DALL·E, or MidJourney, differ in their capabilities, results, and areas of application. Each AI uses its own algorithms and models to create images. While some are specialized in photorealistic representations, others excel in artistic or abstract outputs.

The user experience also varies: some systems handle complex inputs better or support multiple languages, while others focus primarily on English prompts. Quality, style, and level of detail can therefore depend heavily on the AI being used. It’s important to choose the right AI for the desired outcome and to become familiar with its strengths and potential limitations.

These are the most important differences between Stable Diffusion, DALL-E or MidJourney:

• Structure of the prompt, i.e. the text input: With Stable Diffusion, the properties of an image are given in keywords. The use of so-called weightings is also common here. These determine how strongly a certain term or idea is emphasized in relation to other terms.
  
  Weightings are given by numbers or symbols: A stronger emphasis can be achieved, for example, like this: beautiful landscape: 2.0 or ((beautiful landscape)). The term "beautiful landscape" is given twice as much weight here. A reduced emphasis can be achieved, for example, like this: beautiful landscape: 0.5 or [beautiful landscape]. The term "beautiful landscape" then receives a weaker focus. The more brackets you use (e.g. (((...)))), the more the weighting changes.
  
  Other AIs such as DALL-E or MidJourney interpret natural language.

• Prompt length and level of detail: Stable Diffusion works well with detailed prompts, although the results can be strongly influenced by additional hints. For other AIs such as MidJourney, a general, creative prompt is often sufficient, as the AI ​​supplements the rest with its own style specifications. • Technical terms and syntax: Stable Diffusion responds to more precise syntax and allows technical terms such as resolution, focus or lighting. DALL-E and similar AIs prefer descriptive language and often ignore such details.

So each platform has specific characteristics and approaches to processing inputs.

   Formulate your prompts precisely and clearly in Stable Diffusion. The model often has difficulty with complex or abstract descriptions. For other models, you can try more poetic or abstract descriptions.

2. Prompt syntax and structure

   Stable Diffusion supports the weighting of terms. MidJourney also has its own commands and parameters such as --ar for the aspect ratio or --v for the model version. DALL-E, on the other hand, interprets prompts without weighting options.

3. Style and fine-tuning

   Stable Diffusion requires explicit specifications about style or details. MidJourney is particularly good at automatically interpreting stylistic instructions, even if they are vague, e.g. "dreamlike" or "painterly." DALL-E makes extensive suggestions for additions.

4. Adaptation and modification

   Stable Diffusion allows you to integrate your own models or textures via open source providers, e.g. via fine-tuning or LORA. Other image AIs are more intuitive and more automated, but less customizable.
